Fresh from finishing second at the World Championships and second in the World Cup Series Tracy made time to inspire the students to both cycle to school and to get out and enjoy riding in and around Ross on Wye.
Tracy cut the ribbon on the new bike shed which houses 40 bikes and is covered by CCTV. The name (the ‘WyeBike’) was chosen by students and the logo designed by Year 9 student, Ryan Page. The project was funded by the schools Travel Plan with additional sponsorship from Climb on Bikes, Hereford and local design and manufacturing by A J Lowther & Son, Ross on Wye. It forms part of the schools commitment to sustainability.
Luke Moseley, teacher at John Kyrle, said “Cycling forms a central part of our push to improve the health of our students. Not only that but by increasing cycling we’re also acting to reduce congestion on the road and the carbon footprint of the school run as a whole. The WyeBike has been a huge success and it’s resulted in a 100% increase in the number of students cycling to school”.
