An audience, packed into the main hall, enjoyed a great variety of modern and classical performances ranging from Mozart to Bill Withers and from Grieg to Lionel Bart.
The concert demonstrated the instrumental and vocal talent and versatility the John Kyrle students possess and the fantastic support given by staff and parents. Amongst many highlights were the Sixth Form Ensemble singing “Norwegian Dance No. 2” from Peer Gynt in costumes supplied by Iris Price, the Year 11 BTEC Band performing Charlie Rogers-Davies’s own composition, the Senior Concert Band capturing the “Big Band” style and Emily Banks and Alison Raine performing a vocal duet from the musical, “Wicked”.
Music teacher, Deb Blake paid tribute to the students and the staff that had assisted in rehearsing them. It has been a busy time for the staff and students of the Music Department. A new state of the art music technology suite, including professional standard recording facilities, is currently being constructed and will be completed in a couple of weeks time. Students had to be temporarily relocated to other classrooms for music lessons and to rehearse for the concert. Judging by the performances, the change of rehearsal venue did not affect standard of performance.
