The Countess took the opportunity to thank Karen Frost, Chair of Governors, and the Governors for their support of the school and thanked Nigel Griffiths, Headteacher, and his team of dedicated and professional teachers and support staff for their excellent work. She also was impressed with the outstanding relationships that the school has with the parents, students and the local community. In a letter to the Headteacher, Nigel Griffiths, which was recently received at the school, the Countess of Darnley JP had written, “You have some very impressive results and delightful students who are setting out on their lives with high standards and the confidence to tackle life’s difficulties as well as its successes. I very much enjoyed meeting parents and students after the Prize Giving and came away most impressed and happy to see such a large group of hard working, well presented and happy young people.”
The Countess of Darnley JP also made a special presentation to Mrs Joyce Thomas MBE, DL, who had served as Governor of the school since it was established in 1979. She said that Mrs Thomas had made an outstanding contribution to the community of Ross-on-Wye. As the first woman Mayor of the town, as a District and County Councillor for many years, as Chair of the West Mercia Police Authority and as Chair of the Board of Governors in the late 1970s when she was instrumental in the reorganisation of local schools and has been a stalwart enthusiast of the school ever since. She was presented with a gift from the school by the Countess of Darnley JP. Nigel Griffiths, Headteacher, added, “Joyce has been a great friend of the school and is well respected by all involved. Her contribution has been greatly appreciated.”
